Year 6 Summer Term 2022
Welcome back Year 6! And what an exciting Summer Term we have in prospect.
Not long now till the SATs begin and you can show just how much you have learnt. During the lead up to SATS, we will continue to work hard in preparation with additional booster sessions each week. We are very proud of all our Year 6s and know that you will all be brilliant!
Important as they are, however, the Summer Term is not all about SATs. We also have lots of exciting learning going on right up until you leave us and go on to High School. We will be continuing with our topic on ‘Britain Since the 1930s’, looking at key events across the decades, including looking at how Music, Technology, Art and Politics have changed. This topic is brilliant as a stimulus for a range of extended pieces of writing, which is a big focus this term as our Writing Assessments are submitted at the end of June.
English, Maths and Science will initially focus on SATs preparation but will then move towards preparation for High School. In English, we will be reading ‘The Suitcase Kid’ by Jacqueline Wilson and studying Shakespeare’s Macbeth before moving on to 'Oranges from No Mans Land’. In Maths, we will be consolidating all of our learning as well as working on our Y6/7 Transition Unit which is brilliant to prepare for High School as it includes some very complex mathematics and a lot of KS3 content. In Science, we will be taking on the role of Special Agents as we try to ‘Escape from the Tower of Terror’ using practical science. It is all great fun!
As well as all of this fun in the classroom, we have our residential trip to Kingswood coming up straight after SATs (Sunday 15th–Monday 16th), where we will be abseiling, laser-questing, firing arrows in archery, nightlining, zip wiring, 3G Swinging and much much more!!
We also hope to be enjoying the fresh air as much as possible and will be taking every opportunity to indulge in outdoor learning. We are also planning a very exciting Leavers’ experience for our Year 6s this year, so look out for further information, which we will send as soon as possible.
A wonderful term in prospect which will go by in a flash.
